Pickly

Make a ranked choice poll in a minute

Add the options, share one link, and let everyone drag them into their order. Pickly runs an instant runoff, so the winner is the option most of the group backs, not just the one with the loudest fans.

Round 1

  • Lupo Pizza4
  • Thai Corner3
  • Taverna Kreta2

Taverna Kreta has the fewest votes and drops out. Both of its voters liked Thai Corner next.

Round 2

  • Thai Corner5
  • Lupo Pizza4

Thai Corner wins with five of nine. A simple count would have picked Lupo Pizza.

How it works

Add the options. Anything from team names to holiday spots: text, dates, times or places from the map. Between 2 and 20 options.

Share one link. Voters open it on any device and drag the options into order. No app, no account, a few seconds each.

Watch the rounds. Results update live and show each round of the count, so everyone can see why the winner won.

What is ranked choice voting?

Instead of picking one option, each voter puts the options in order of preference. That extra information is what makes the result fairer.

Pickly counts the ballots as an instant runoff. If one option is the first choice of more than half the voters, it wins. If not, the option with the fewest first choices is knocked out, and its voters' ballots move to their next choice. That repeats until one option has a majority.

Why it beats a simple vote

With a simple vote, two similar options split their supporters and a third option wins with less than half the group behind it. In the example above, Lupo Pizza has the most first choices, but five of the nine voters prefer Thai Corner.

Ranking also takes the tactics out. You can put your real favourite first without worrying about wasting your vote, because if it drops out your ballot still counts for your next choice.

Questions

Is ranked choice the same as instant runoff?
Ranked choice describes the ballot: voters rank the options. Instant runoff is the most common way to count those ballots, and it's the one Pickly uses.
Do voters have to rank every option?
Every option gets a place in the order, but voters only need to care about the top few. Dragging the favourites up is enough.
What if two options tie?
When options tie for the fewest votes in a round, they drop out together. The results page shows every round, so you can see exactly how the winner got there.
Is it free?
Yes, for up to 20 voters per poll, and without an account. Pro adds unlimited voters and a few other extras.
